What Is Ingeo?

Ingeo is NatureWorks’ brand of PLA, a plant-based bioplastic used in applications including paper cup coatings. Plant-based PLA is still a plastic; the material name alone does not establish that a finished cup is plastic-free, recyclable or certified compostable.

Composting and Disposal

NatureWorks explains that final products made with Ingeo need their own compostability testing. Check the certification and disposal instructions for the supplied cup before choosing a waste collection route. Where the finished cup is certified for industrial composting, use a collection service that accepts it. Do not assume suitability for home composting or household recycling.

Choosing a Size and Matching Lid

Check the selected size and pack quantity before ordering. Match a lid to the cup’s rim diameter and the supplier’s compatibility information, rather than the capacity alone. Confirm fit before adding one of the optional lids shown on this page.

Follow the supplied cup’s hot-drink handling guidance and assess whether a sleeve is needed for your drink and serving temperature.
